Do more than talk about Ye’s antisemitism

The musical artist formerly known as Kanye West is in hot water over a slew of antisemitic remarks, including a post telling his 31.4 million Twitter followers he would soon be “going death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.” The anti-Jewish prejudice Ye unleashed resulted in the suspension of his social media accounts, though his Instagram and Twitter accounts have been restored. The rapper has lost considerable funding sources, having been dropped by talent agency Creative Artists Agency, and from partnerships with Balenciaga and Adidas. Several prominent athletes have also terminated their affiliations with Ye’s sports agency, Donda Sports. While the media storm has caused a flurry of Hollywood personalities, political figures, and concerned citizens to speak out against the dangers of antisemitism, nefarious actors have also been emboldened by the controversy.

On Oct. 22, banners reading “Kanye is right about the Jews” and “Honk if you know” were hung over a Los Angeles freeway. People standing near the banners were seen issuing the Nazi salute. Aggressive campaigns of antisemitic fliers have been noted in the Los Angeles area, attributing guilt for all manner of ills to the Jewish people. After offering Ye a private tour of its facilities, the Holocaust Museum of LA has received a spate of antisemitic messages online.

Contract terminations and vocal outcries have not stopped Ye’s words from being a lightning rod for further hate. This is frightening considering the environment of antisemitism that already plagues our…
